curious2017

Immerse yourself in a day of performances, games, installations and workshops as you observe, contribute, participate and make or alter, remove, change and play.

Artists have long questioned the boundaries between artist and audience: from Allan Kaprow’s ‘happenings’ - artistic performances that were shaped by audience participation; to Joseph Beuy’s ‘social sculpture’ theory of the world where everyone is an artist.

Unfinished is co-curated by Nell Catchpole and Jan Hendrickse. Joining Guildhall School staff, students and alumni to take over the Barbican Exhibition Halls for an immersive day of happenings and performances are guest artists: Ansuman Biswas, Jack Derbyshire. Imogen Knight, Vassilis Chatzimakris, Louis D'Heudieres, Andreas Papapetrou, Raisa Zapryanova [In(s)core], Lucy Taylor, Martins Baumanis, Milo O'Halloran, Norman Haynes, Grant Smith - Soundcamp, Sue Mayo, Sylvia Lim, Tessa Wills, Phillip Golub - Conduction, Maya Khaldi, Kate Smith - THAT!, Rodrigo Viterbo De Oliveira, Rachel Mangold, Chris Avis, Cathy Lane, Claudia Molitor, Tom Lovelace, and Nitin Lachhani.

Un-conference

Unfinished will also be conducted as an un-conference, or participant-led meeting. The agenda will be set by those participating and there will be points in the day when the group will be facilitated to enable constructive group discussions to take place.

If you are able to attend for the whole day and be part of the developing conversation it will be an opportunity to meet others and be part of a unique and ongoing self-organised discussion. The un-conference begins with an introduction at 11am. If you would like to experience all or some of this element then please arrive for the 11am start.

Time and venue:
11am-8pm, Thursday 6 July at
Barbican Exhibition Halls
Silk St, London EC2Y 8DS, UK

About Curious

Curious is curated by artists and tutors from Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning, and is an annual showcase of new work created by students, graduates and guest artists from the Guildhall School in collaboration with visual artists and communication designers from Central Saint Martins, UAL.

Curious is a celebration of experimentation, pushing boundaries and collaborative working across art forms; encouraging the sharing of ideas between emerging and practising artists. Curious presents work that responds to contemporary life – from the realities and beauty of the everyday to the political issues of the moment.

Taking place across four days in the Barbican Exhibition Halls, this year’s showcase includes a mix of performance installations, experimental and improvised music, spoken word performance, discussions and a day exploring and sharing participatory processes.
