Notes on the day past, letters to a future self, thoughts about yesterday, a crib sheet for tomorrow. In our diaries we record an inner, more sincere version of ourselves, usually with words and sometimes with drawings. In this case, I am attempting to record the same ideas in music, without words, without images, without explanations, perhaps subconsciously but still openly, starting from a pivotal moment in my life – the birth of my daughter.

With this in mind, I am using pre-recorded material from her toys, combined with sounds from the piano to compose and add an entry to this diary without words, which I will share with you. I invite you to “read” this page with me.

Ημερολόγιο χωρίς λέξεις: Μουσική για πιάνο και σάμπλερ

Η Μουσική Ακαδημία ARTE παρουσιάζει τη συναυλία Νέας Μουσικής για πιάνο και σάμπλερ με τίτλο «Ημερολόγιο χωρίς λέξεις» με έργα του Αντρέα Παπαπέτρου.

Σημείωμα του συνθέτη:
Σημειώσεις για τη μέρα που πέρασε, γράμματα σε μελλοντικό εαυτό, σκέψεις για το χθες και σκονάκια για το αύριο. Στο ημερολόγιο καταγράφουμε μια εσωτερική, ειλικρινή πτυχή μας, συνήθως με λέξεις κι άλλοτε με ζωγραφιές. Στην προκειμένη περίπτωση επιχειρώ να καταγράψω τα αντίστοιχα με μουσική, χωρίς λέξεις, χωρίς εικόνες, χωρίς εξηγήσεις, υποσυνείδητα ίσως, μα φανερά, με αφετηρία ένα κομβικό σημείο στη ζωή μου – τη γέννηση της κόρης μου.

Έτσι χρησιμοποιώ προ-ηχογραφημένο υλικό από τα παιχνίδια της, συνδυασμένο με ήχους του πιάνου για να συνθέσω και να προσθέσω μια καταχώρηση στο ημερολόγιο χωρίς λέξεις, που θα μοιραστώ μαζί σας. Σας προσκαλώ να «διαβάσετε» αυτή τη σελίδα μαζί μου.

Σχεδιάζω Ήχους στο Μουσείο

Διήμερο οικογενειακό εργαστήριο με παράσταση

Τι κρύβεται πίσω από τα μυστηριώδη σύμβολα στο διάκοσμο ενός αγγείου και πώς αυτά μετατρέπονται σε ήχους;

Ένα μοναδικό και αλλιώτικο βιωματικό εργαστήρι εκπαιδευτικού χαρακτήρα και συναυλία, με σκοπό́ τη γνωριμία με τις συλλογές των μουσείων του ΠΙΤΚ. Οι συλλογές μετατρέπονται σε ηχητικές παλέτες και δημιουργούν γραφικές παρτιτούρες, μέσα από μία δημιουργική και πρακτική διαδικασία.

Με αφετηρία τα εκθέματα των μουσειακών συλλογών (σύμβολα νομισμάτων, σχέδια αγγείων ή και σχήματα αγαλμάτων) και την ιδιαίτερη ιστορία τους, οι συμμετέχοντες θα έρθουν σε επαφή με την πρακτική της προετοιμασίας γραφικών παρτιτούρων - τεχνικές σημειογραφίας που συνδυάζουν εικόνες, σύμβολα και λεκτικές οδηγίες αλλά και της δημιουργίας ηχητικού πειραματισμού.

Με το πέρας των βιωματικών εργαστηρίων, οι συμμετέχοντες θα έχουν δημιουργήσει δικά τους πρωτότυπα έργα που θα ερμηνευθούν από επαγγελματίες μουσικούς, αλλά και από τους ίδιους τους συμμετέχοντες (εάν το επιθυμούν) στην τελική συναυλία της δράσης, με τη χρήση μουσικών οργάνων και άλλων ηχοποιητικών αντικειμένων, με τεχνικές αυτοσχεδιαστικής ερμηνείας.

Για το εργαστήριο δεν απαιτούνται καλλιτεχνικές ή μουσικές γνώσεις.

Σας προσκαλούμε να έρθετε με την οικογένεια σας, με δημιουργική και εξερευνητική διάθεση, για μια πρωτότυπη ηχητική εμπειρία μέσα στο μουσείο. Η παράσταση των έργων που θα δημιουργηθούν από το εργαστήριο, θα εκτελεστεί από επαγγελματίες μουσικούς και συμμετέχοντες και θα είναι ανοιχτή στο κοινό την Κυριακή 19 Μαρτίου στις 12:00.

“ReInHerit in Performance: The Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios Mansion” is one of the events organized for ReInHerit “Redefining the Future of Culture Heritage: Creating an Innovative Model for Sustainability” (http://www.reinherit.eu), coordinated by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation.

 How many layers of history are hiding in a medieval mansion in the heart of the old city of Nicosia?

Who were the previous residents of this emblematic building and what was their relationship to the creation of our city? Who were the owners of the ancient relics that adorn the rooms of this house?

How many hopes and dreams fit within these walls? What will this space look like in the future?

On 29 October we will look for the answers together!

The immersive performance at the mansion of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios combines a music performance, a sound installation, and a sensory exhibition in the spaces of a unique monument of cultural heritage. It is suitable for all ages and will be presented in three different starting times, for a limited audience.

The performance offers an innovative approach to the curation of the visitors’ experience within cultural heritage sites, for which we are creating an immersive experience within a museum. The performance consists of a temporary large-scale sound installation, which combines prerecorded sound and live electronics with a small group of musicians from the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, video projection, theatrical lighting and multisensory haptic exhibits.

During the performance, the audience and performers navigate the spaces of the museum freely and trigger sonic events wherever and whenever they enter to explore, depending on the placement of the sound installation’s digital sensors. Thus, every visitor receives an individualised experience of the cultural heritage space, shaped by their personal choices on where to move to, what to focus on and for how long during the performance. 

ReInHerit funding was secured in the framework of the Horizon 2020 CSA Programme, on the theme Culture beyond borders – Facilitating innovation and research cooperation between European museums and heritage. The Programme proposes an innovative model of sustainable cultural heritage management, aspiring to disrupt the current status quo of communication, collaboration and innovation exchange between museums and cultural heritage sites.

The performance is organized by CYENS Centre of Excellence, ReInHerit partner.

Κάτω από το τίτλο «Πολιτισμός Ξανά», το μουσικό σχήμα Trio Rondine ανοίγει φέτος το Φεστιβάλ Τεχνών FANEROMENI22, την Πέμπτη 23 Ιουνίου

To Trio Rondine είναι μια νεοσύστατη μπάντα που προέκυψε το 2021, όταν τρεις φίλοι ένωσαν τις δυνάμεις τους για να αποδώσουν ηχητικά το μουσικό τοπίο της Μεσογείου. Rondine, πάει να πει χελιδόνι. Στον χάρτη των αποδημητικών πουλιών τα τέσσερα σημεία του ορίζοντα, ξεκινώντας από τον Ελλαδικό χώρο, για να πετάξουν στις περιοχές που βρέχονται από τη Μεσόγειο θάλασσα.

Κάθε σταθμός τους ένα τραγούδι από μια άλλη παράδοση. Κι όπως το μακρινό ταξίδι των χελιδονιών συνεχίζεται, την παράδοση διαδέχεται η σύγχρονη τραγουδοποιία και η κινηματογραφική μουσική, για να τα οδηγήσει πίσω στις ζεστές φωλιές τους, με ένα σωρό τραγούδια που θα ψιθυρίζουν στα μικρά τους.

Το ρεπερτόριό τους περιλαμβάνει παραδοσιακά και σύγχρονα τραγούδια από την Ελλάδα, Κύπρο, Ιταλία, Κορσική, Συρία, Λίβανο, Κροατία, Γαλλία, Ισπανία, Μαρόκο, Λιβύη, Αίγυπτο καθώς και γνωστά θέματα από ταινίες-σταθμούς του κινηματογράφου.

Το σχήμα θα παρουσιάσει επίσης πρωτότυπο, ανέκδοτο υλικό το οποίο εμπνέεται από τις μουσικές παραδόσεις της Μεσογείου. Τα τραγούδια, και οι παραδόσεις που εκπροσωπούν, δένονται μεταξύ τους με το στοιχείο της αφήγησης, που με τη σειρά του ενώνει παλιές ιστορίες από δημοτικά τραγούδια με σύγχρονα, προσωπικά βιώματα των μουσικών. Τις φωνές τους τις συνοδεύουν με μια κιθάρα, ένα ακορντεόν και ένα μαντολίνο. Στη συγκεκριμένη συναυλία, το Trio Rondine φιλοξενεί έναν εξαίρετο Κύπριο μουσικό, τον Μαρίνο Κάσινο στο μπάσο και τα ηχητικά τοπία.

Έχουν παρουσιάσει τη δουλειά τους στο Μεσαιωνικό Φεστιβάλ Δήμου Λάρνακας το καλοκαίρι του 2021, στο 8ο Cyprus Jazz & World Music Showcase, τον Νοέμβριο του 2021 και σε μουσικές σκηνές της πρωτεύουσας.

CYPRUS AVENUE by Fresh Target Theatre - performance dates

Η Fresh Target Theatre Ensemble και το Sputnik (in orbit) παρουσιάζουν σε παγκύπρια και πανελλήνια πρώτη τη μαύρη κωμωδία Cyprus Avenue του David Ireland. Γραμμένο το 2016 τo Cyprus Avenue έχει αποσπάσει το βραβείο Καλύτερου Νέου Θεατρικού Έργου στο βραβεία Irish Times Theatre Awards καθώς και το James Tait Black Prize for Drama το 2017.

Το έργο πραγματεύεται - με μια μοναδική και ιδιαίτερη θεατρική φόρμα - τα όρια του εθνικού εξτρεμισμού και φέρνει στο επίκεντρο την κρίση ταυτότητας - προσωπικής και εθνικής - ενός συνταξιούχου άντρα που ζει στο Μπέλφαστ, ο οποίος αρχίζει να συνηδειτοποιεί τα ψεύδη πάνω στα οποία οικοδόμησε την ταυτότητα αλλά και την ζωή του. Ισορροπώντας χιούμορ και τρόμο, το έργο αποδεικνύει πόσο μοιραία μπορεί να είναι η κρίση ταυτότητας τόσο σε προσωπικό όσο και σε συλλογικό επίπεδο. Γραμμένο στο δυτικότερο νησί της Ευρώπης (Ιρλανδία) παρουσιάζεται στο ανατολικότερο νησί της Ευρώπης (Κύπρος), με την απόσταση που χωρίζει τις δύο χώρες να μηδενίζεται από τους τρομακτικούς παραλληλισμούς με την δικές μας κρίσεις: ταυτότητας και άλλες.

Fresh Target Theater Ensemble and Sputnik (in orbit) present for the first time in pancyprian and panHellenic, the black comedy Cyprus Avenue by David Ireland. Written in 2016, Cyprus Avenue has won the Best New Theater Award at the Irish Times Theater Awards as well as the James Tait Black Prize for Drama in 2017. The play deals - with a unique and special theatrical form - the limits of national extremism and focuses on the identity crisis - personal and national - of a retired man living in Belfast, who begins to realize the lies on which he built his identity, but also his life. Balancing humor and horror, the play proves how fatal identity crisis can be both personally and collectively. Written on the westernmost island of Europe (Ireland) it is presented on the easternmost island of Europe (Cyprus), with the distance separating the two countries being zeroed by the frightening parallels with our own crises: identity and others.

8th Cyprus Jazz & World Music Showcase

Trio Rondine will perform a collection of songs from the shores of the Mediterranean and their own compositions for a combination voices, mandolin, guitar and accordion at the 8th Cyprus Jazz and World Music Showcase.

Trio Rondine are a new band that was formed this year. Amidst the pandemic and its severe limitations for artistic expression, three established musicians joined forces to paint the musical landscapes of the Mediterranean. Rondine, like swallow birds, explore the corners of the world, starting from Greece and flying off to the distant shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Each stop is a song from a different tradition these migratory birds visit and, as their long journey continues, tradition is met with contemporary songwriting and film music, leading them back to their homeland with a collection of songs to lullaby their young. Trio Rondine's repertoire includes traditional and modern songs from Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Corsica, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Croatia, France, Spain, Morocco, Libya and Egypt, along with well-known themes from classic films. Their voices are accompanied by a mandolin, a guitar and an accordion.

For the 8th consecutive year the tradition, embraced by both artists and the general public, returns to Rialto Theatre in Limassol on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 November.

The Platform is organized by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, the Music Information Center and Rialto Theatre, aiming to highlight and promote the most important artists of Jazz and World Music in Cyprus.

The 8th Cyprus Jazz and World Music Showcase will feature a total of 10 bands consisting of more than 40 musicians. 8 bands will present their new work at RIALTO Theatre and 2 will be presented in the upgraded and landscaped space of ArtStudio55 (next to Rialto).

Alongside to the festival's main program, a series of side events, such us discussion meetings with guests from abroad, workshops and jam sessions are organized.

Participation in 1st Cyprus Choreography Showcase

Happy to share that Echo Arts “Sketching A Dance - The World of Cyprus with Women” will be participating in the 1st Cyprus Choreography Showcase - 7 & 8 March 2020

The preparations for the 1st Cyprus Choreography Showcase (SXK) culminate these days. The new event aspires to complete the cycle of institutions concerning to the promotion and development of Contemporary Dance in our country.

The new institution offers to the Cypriot choreographers the opportunity to present their works to artistic directors and organizers of contemporary dance festivals from abroad, and to enhance their efforts for international promotion and possible retraction of their works abroad. In this framework seven personalities from the field of contemporary dance have been invited and will attend the performances. These are the following:

From “Dance Days Chania” Festival, Sofia Falierou, Artistic Director and Chrysa Georgiou, Project Manager. From ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival Michael Stolhofer, Festival Curator. From TROIS C-L Centre De Creation Choregraphique Luxembourg, Coraline Garnero, International Project Manager. The Athens & Epidaurus Festival will be represented by the Dance Consultant Elias Chatzigeorgiou and Onassis Cultural Centre from Christina Liata, Tour Manager & International Co-productions. Finally, from Danec Praha will attend Yvona Kreuzmannová, Founder and Director.

The 1st Showcase will feature eight contemporary dance works that have been choreographed and distinguished over the last two years, giving to dance friends a second chance to watch them. Program and hours of the performances:

This choreographic research project draws inspiration from the sketch "THE WORLD OF WOMEN" by Adamantios Diamantis (1900 - 1994) which the painter never got to develop into the desired monumental work in oils, as he had successfully done with his "THE WORLD OF CYPRUS" that focuses on the men of the island.

Elena Antoniou invades Rialto Theatre with the synergy of five other female artists. Shortly after her performances at Athens Festival and Onassis Stegi in Greece, she is back to questioning time as a construct, freedom as a convention and individuality as a prerequisite. She renegotiates the personal boundaries and highlights wish-ing, as the only way out of any subjective restraint. “The sole responsibility of the beholder is that of his infinite freedom”.

Μια μουσική περιδιάβαση στο Δημοτικό Θέατρο Λευκωσίας σε χώρους προσβάσιμους αλλά και απαγορευμένους για το κοινό. Κατά τη διάρκεια της παράστασης «ΠΑΝΤΟΥ», οι χώροι του κτηρίου γίνονται ένα μουσικό περιβάλλον: μια εκτεταμένη μουσική εγκατάσταση, μέσα στην οποία το κοινό θα ακολουθεί τους μουσικούς ως ξεναγούς. Σε αυτό τον διαδραστικό μουσικό περίπατο, το κοινό ακούει ψήγματα από τραγούδια και μελωδίες διαφόρων πολιτισμών, καθώς αυτά θα συνδυάζονται σε ένα αμάλγαμα ήχων, ενσωματωμένα στις συνθέσεις της παράστασης. Έτσι το κοινό θα αγκαλιάσει και θα αναδιεκδικήσει το ανακαινισμένο κτίριο του θεάτρου ως ζωτικό του χώρο, μετά από χρόνια απουσίας του από αυτό λόγω ανακαινίσεων.

An immersive musical performance in which all areas of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre become accessible to audience members. The building's indoor spaces become a musical environment; an extensive musical installation in which the audience can move, following the performers as guides. During this interactive musical promenade, the audience will discover fragments of songs and melodies of different cultures, combined in an amalgamation of compositions that form the fabric of the performance. Through this experience the audience will rediscover and reclaim the renovated spaces of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, after years of absence.

Sketching a Dance: The World of Cyprus with Women

How do we translate a set of drawings into movement, gesture and sound? Come to Dancehouse Lefkosia next week and find out! "Sketching a dance: The world of Cyprus with Women", a dance and music performance I've contributed to as a composer and arranger will be presented on 15, 17 and 18 October 2019.

The choreographic research draws inspiration from the sketch “The World of Women” by Adamantios Diamantis (1900 – 1994) which the painter never realized into the desired monumental work in oils, as he had done successfully with his “THE WORLD OF CYPRUS” depicting predominantly the men of the island.

This modest but intriguing sketch has inspired and been read as hieroglyphic and symbolic images by the dancers, prompting their imagination to explore the complex connection between Body with Memory, Body with Earth and Place with Time.

The choreographic process wishes to touch the WORLD OF CYPRUS WITH WOMEN by weaving both dancers and singers as performers, who are ritualizing a celebration and connecting a unique web of the women of the island, across time immemorial.

“Sketching a Dance” this dance is a collaboration between Echo Arts / Arianna Economou, Amalgamation Choir & Friends of Vasiliki Anastasiou, and composer Andreas Papapetrou.

The performance is dedicated to the Diamantis families.
