Sound and Seek at the Colourscape Music Festival 2017
Sound and Seek
Performances on Sunday 24 September, 1-5pm
Composed by Andreas Papapetrou
Eye Music Rawsthorn Commission 2017
Sound and Seek offers audience members of all ages the opportunity to explore the different spaces and hues of Colourscape, while experiencing a constantly shifting and transforming soundscape and engaging in creative interplay with the performers. It is a playful combination of music theatre and spatial music, which translates rules and visual references found in children’s games such as hide-and-seek, the treasure hunt and cat’s cradle, into a flowing musical environment.
This immersive site-specific performance is created by a large group of musicians and dancers who weave colour and sound through the Colourscape’s compartments and around the audience. The textures of sound produced correspond to the colour of the space the musicians are in at any given time. Thus, the colours and structure of the Colourscape’s compartments function as a graphic score, through which both performers and audience navigate, creating a variety of sonic combinations and affecting the overall soundscape.
Performers: Patricia Auchterlonie (voice), Collin Shay (voice), Jennifer Raven (flute), Boyan Ivanov (clarinet), Phil Pike (bassoon), Aileen Henry (harp), Kalliopi Mitropoulou (violin), Michael Iskas (viola), Raisa Zapryanova (viola), Maral Mohammadi (violoncello), Thodoris Ziarkas (double bass), Taylor Han (dancer), Phillip Hewit (dancer).
